You may not think so, but watching 9 blocks of films in 4 days is exhausting. Days spent writing, nights spent editing, and trying to find time to eat and drink in between.

Overall, the festival was great; most of the films were really cool, the people were friendly, and the panninis were bomb. We had a great time, and we hope you enjoyed keeping up with us (again, sorry about the technical difficulties).

Much thanks to movieposter.com for sponsoring the event, and hooking us up with tickets. Thank you to all the people who worked and organized the festival for being accommodating and patient. Thank you Terri Mintz, Jeannine Kaspar, Tim Gorski, and Ted The Bartender* for indulging us and supporting the website. And to all our readers and supporters, thanks for sticking with us. We’re taking a couple days off, and then we’ll get back to bringing you the voice from the underground.

*We had a great interview with Ted, a bartender from the awesome Black Sheep Pub in Ashland. Unfortunately, bars do not make for the ideal lighting for a video and the footage we have is almost completely black (DAMN YOU FLIP MINO!!). But he’s a cool guy and it’s a great pub. If you’re ever in Ashland, DEFINITELY check it out and tell Ted we said what’s up. Thanks again Ted and next time we’ll be better prepared!

One of our favorite features we saw at AIFF was Paper Covers Rock, written and directed by Joe Maggio. It’s the story of a mother, superbly played by Jeannine Kaspar, suffering from chronic depression and desperately trying to reunite with her daughter.

We got the chance to talk this fantastic actress right after the film.

Last day of the festival. We didn’t have a film until 6:20pm, but we spent the day dealing with technical difficulties. Grabbed a great lunch at Pangea in Ashland, then watched Paper Covers Rock. Scored an interview with the beautiful Jeannine Kaspar (lead actress), then finished the week off with Wendy and Lucy. We didn’t make it to the award ceremony, but we did head back to The Black Sheep. After tasty buffalo burgers, warming scotch, and conversation with new friends, we said goodbye to Ashland until next year.

It was great to sleep in and get some editing done, but we were late getting to the Animated Shorts, and they almost sold our tickets! Most of the shorts were really cool, and we got a Q&A with Joaquin Baldwin, director of Sebastian’s Voodoo (very well done).

After coffee and bagels, we dove back in with Short Stories, 5 short feature films. We were lucky enough to sit next to three lovely ladies from Bend, Oregon, one of whom happened to be Terri Einbund Mintz, who heads the Bend Independent Film Festival (we know where we’ll be in October). After a couple drinks and great conversation over at The Black Sheep, we headed back to catch Idiots and Angels, an animated feature directed by Bill Plympton.

We got an interview with Tim Gorski (cinematographer for At the Edge of the World), chatted with Jeannine Kaspar (Paper Covers Rock), and almost scored an interview with Bill Plympton (he said he’d be around on Sunday night…we’ll see), before heading back to The Black Sheep for the afterparty. Good day.

Reversion was one of the films we were most excited about seeing. But it was pretty much sold out throughout the festival. Last night, we were lucky enough to grab the last two seats at one of it’s showings. So here it is, a bonus video about the amazing movie we almost didn’t see.

Day two was a really long day. We woke up at 8am after editing and writing until 2am. With the help of a shitload of coffee, we got through Prom Night in Mississippi at 10am (great documentary, good job Morgan Freeman), and barely stayed awake through Trece Anos (short film) and The Betrayal (longest 96 minute documentary ever). Apparently, Jesus was on our side today, because we scored the last two seats for the sold out showing of Beijing Haze and Reversion. Writer/Director Mia Trachinger even showed up for a short Q&A (we officially love her and will have a Day 2 Bonus video dedicated to her amazing film posted later). Finished the day with delicious Thai food and wine at Bambu in Medford. Luckily, we get to sleep in on day three, but we’ll keep you posted.

[NOTE: This was supposed to be posted late last night, right after we got out of the movie. But being the lazy bastards we are, we fell asleep and are scrambling to put it up this morning before we leave for our 10 AM film.

Also, we totally forgot the director of Eden’s name, when we were making the video. We apologize. His name is Declan Recks and he is a fine director.]

We got our tickets today for the rest of the week and, amazingly enough, we’re actually going to see everything we wanted to. We bummed around Ashland a bit, hit up 38 on Central in Medford (their duck quesadilla is bomb), and saw our first films in the evening. The first was 34X25X36, a documentary short about mannequin manufacturing, and the illusive perfect female body (and religion…what?) The second was Eden, an Irish film, about a marriage on the rocks (the Irish want their relationships served like their Jameson). Overall a pretty chill day, but we’re in full swing tomorrow, starting at 10AM and rocking until the wee hours of 11PM. It’s a tough job, but we do it for the money. Wait…
