SIFF 2011

It’s that time of year again. When Northwest hipsters, film buffs, and loaded retirees converge on downtown Seattle, and celebrate our lack of Springtime weather by cramming into small, dark rooms all day in the hopes of witnessing indie cinema magic. Hell yes.

The 2011 Seattle International Film Festival kicks off on May 19. After attending a sneak preview event Tuesday night, I spent hours going through the film catalog, narrowing down my choices. My first run through: 40 films. Considering this year’s festival is boasting four times that number overall, I thought that was pretty good. However, I forced myself down a bit, and now I have my list. I’m pretty excited. (NOTE: Excited as I may be, I’ve come to the realization that telling people I have SIFFilis is not the same thing as “Mariner Fever”. Who makes these rules??)

I only gave myself three limitations this year: First, I couldn’t take time off work or school to go watch movies. That may seem like common sense, but it’s really, really hard. Especially considering the movies I’ll miss out on because of it. Second, I couldn’t see more than two films on any given day. Again, common sense. And again, very hard. Third, I had to review every film I saw. Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult. So after careful consideration, here’s my list for the 2011 SIFF. Come hang out with me in Seattle! Donate to SIFF
